Hi All,
I hope your week is going well. As always, here’s your weekly On-Track advice, a list of tips and tricks to keep you on track with your goals in life and business.
1. “Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” ― Mark Twain
Procrastination happens when you’re not clear enough about the scope of the task you have to complete. Break it down into small, manageable chunks of work by asking yourself, “What’s the next action that needs to be taken?” More often than not, you’ll be able to make significant progress on a task in just two minutes. On top of that, you’ll feel like you can actually get the work done.
2. “Less mental clutter means more mental resources available for deep thinking.” ― Cal Newport
If you feel like your mind is so cluttered that you can only produce shallow work (the opposite of Deep Work), I suggest you do the following:
- Write down all tasks, to-dos, and errands that are weighing on your mind.
- Categorize them according to priority (i.e., high, medium, low).
- Knock all tasks of your list in descending order of importance.
This may take some time depending on the size of your list, but it is an exercise well-worth doing regardless.
3. “Your ability to generate power is directly proportional to your ability to relax.” ― David Allen
Ask any high performer how they get so much stuff done, and they’ll likely tell you that it has to do with optimizing their own energy levels.
If you want to boost your output, find some time to relax and recharge: Spend some time with friends and family, read a book, or take more naps. Chances are that you’ll be more productive as a result.
Until next week,
Mike van der Poel
P.S. Anyone else?
